Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3: all the info on these AI connected glasses

Ray-Ban Meta Aviator

The Ray-Ban Meta are no longer just a simple gadget for filming everyday life. In just a few years, Connected glasses have taken an important place in the world of artificial intelligence. And Meta fully intends to keep developing the concept. After several months of rumors, the new generation is now official: the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 were unveiled on September 23, 2026 at Meta Connect.

The third generation does not revolutionize the formula. Meta notably keeps the 12-megapixel camera, 3K Ultra HD video recording, open-ear speakers, and Meta AI integration. The main changes are instead focused on battery life, audio capture, design, and certain photo-related features.

And contrary to what one might have expected, the Wayfarer is no longer alone in the lineup. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 are offered in several silhouettes, including the new Aviator and Zena, the latter adopting a slimmer cat-eye shape.

Ray-Ban Meta move to the third generation

The second generation is still relatively recent. It even received new variations in 2026, notably with the Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics Gen 2, designed specifically to accommodate prescription lenses. These models feature a slimmer construction, interchangeable nose pads, extended hinges, and above all adjustable temple tips.

Gen 3 follows this approach with a frame redesigned in detail. The temples are slightly slimmer and the tips can be adjusted to improve fit. Meta also reduced the opening around the camera and its LED indicator by 36%. The glasses are therefore more discreet when worn day to day.

The range also expands with three silhouettes: Wayfarer, Aviator and Zena. The latter brings a cat-eye shape that allows the new generation to move further away from the very distinctive connected-glasses look.

12 MP camera and up to 9 hours of battery life

Ultimately, it is battery life where Meta delivers one of the most tangible improvements. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 can reach up to 9 hours of use on a charge, compared with more than eight hours announced for Gen 2. Real-world battery life obviously varies depending on use of the camera, audio, and Meta AI.

However, Meta has not increased the camera resolution. Gen 3 keeps a 12-megapixel sensor capable of recording in 3K Ultra HD at 30 fps. The glasses still have 32 GB of storage, with a stated capacity of more than 1,000 photos and more than 100 30-second videos.

What’s new is more about the way photos are taken. Dynamic Photos make it possible to select the best image from a short sequence, a particularly useful feature when the subject is moving or when a photo is taken quickly.

The camera also keeps its LED indicator intended to let people nearby know that a photo or video is being captured.

Six microphones for audio and Meta Glasses AI

The other major change is in the temples. Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 go from five to six microphones. Meta claims a reduction of more than 90% in background noise in certain situations, with the goal of improving calls and understanding voice commands when the environment is noisy.

The open-ear speakers are still present. They make it possible to listen to music, podcasts, or take calls without using earbuds, while still maintaining awareness of surrounding sounds.

Meta Glasses AI remains at the heart of the experience. With Meta AI, the glasses can answer questions, provide information about what the user is looking at, translate certain content, send messages, or manage various functions by voice. The Meta AI app and a compatible smartphone are still required for setup and certain features.

The capabilities offered by Meta AI also depend on the country, the language, and the available software updates.

A new customizable action button

Meta also adds a customizable action button on the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3. It can notably be configured to quickly access Meta AI or another selected function.

This button complements the glasses’ touch and voice controls. Above all, it offers another way to interact with Ray-Ban Meta, without always needing to speak a command out loud.

A range that opens up more to women

Design therefore takes a more important role in this new generation. The Wayfarer obviously remains in the lineup, but the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 also welcome the Aviator and the Zena.

The latter adopts a slimmer cat-eye shape, expanding the options for those looking for something other than the classic silhouettes of previous generations. Meta announces a total of 27 frame-and-lens combinations for the launch of Gen 3.

This evolution is particularly interesting for eyeglasses. When a pair of Ray-Ban Meta has to be worn several hours a day, the choice of shape, size, and prescription becomes just as important as the built-in electronic features.

All Ray-Ban Meta, with an optician’s expertise

At Visiofactory, the goal is therefore not only to offer a pair of Ray-Ban Meta.

The objective is to enable customers to order their pair of Ray-Ban Meta with custom prescription lenses, which we offer with several lens brands such as Ray-Ban and BBGR. As an authorized Ray-Ban Meta reseller, we can therefore offer this prescription adaptation, which is still not very common on websites specializing in technology products.

For someone who wears glasses all day, this option obviously changes the way Ray-Ban Meta are considered. Optical correction, frame choice, and Lens type remain elements to take into account in the same way as the camera or battery life.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3: no augmented reality

Despite their AI glasses name, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 still do not have a display in the lenses. They therefore do not project information in front of the eyes and are not augmented reality glasses in the classic sense of the term.

Interaction happens through voice, touch, the camera, microphones, and speakers. When they are not used for their connected features, they remain visually close to a traditional pair of Ray-Ban glasses.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 or Gen 2?

The second generation still has strong arguments. It also features a 12 MP camera, 3K video, open-ear speakers, Meta AI, and 32 GB of storage. The Scriber Optics and Blayzer Optics Gen 2 models were additionally developed to accommodate prescription lenses.

Gen 3 mainly brings improvements on points that become important when the glasses are used regularly: up to 9 hours of battery life, six microphones, better noise reduction, a customizable action button, a slimmer frame, and new photo features. The camera, however, remains 12 MP with 3K video recording.

The choice will therefore also depend on the desired shape, reference availability, and prescription options. For connected eyeglasses, the frame and lenses remain essential criteria.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 are available

After several months of rumors, Meta has finally lifted the veil on its new generation. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 keep the formula that made previous versions successful while improving several practical aspects: battery life, audio capture, camera integration, and frame choices.

Ray-Ban Meta thus remain halfway between classic glasses and a connected device. They allow you to take first-person photos and videos, listen to music, make calls, and use Meta AI without having to take out your smartphone. For glasses wearers, they can above all accommodate prescription lenses so you don’t have to choose between optical correction and connected features.
